What do I need to do to become a popular artist on NG?

Posted by mortis5000 - April 17th, 2008

Please tell me what I need to do to become a popular artist...I mean I produced very good work...but my per video views and reviews are not even equaling the work that I produce...I could see if I was putting crap flashes on here....but I'm not, I'm putting very good work on here...maybe I'm missing a key here and if I am let me know right here...
UPDATE:
I just found this....I was actually in the the top ten that day....I was so freaking close to an award.....
UPDATE:
Was close again... seventh again... I'll keep trying....Ryu Vs Sean

I'm sorry dude but you need more leverage. You need to be at least better than me, and I'm pretty good. It seems that you are getting high scores because of your story and not your animation skills. To me it's the opposite. So if you find a way to mesh these two together, I'm pretty sure you'll get some popularity.

Thanks for your opinion it helped

ur not shit, thats for sure.
I personally really lyke ur storylines...and ur dialog is very good.
The only thing I can suggest is you make the sprites move as smoothly as possible...and don't use anything of proxicides!!! (LOL)
Do your own thang, be original.
And I promise you will be THA SHIT

Thanks man

Make good flash stuff(movies, games, audio.),posting in the forums, make a lot of friends...just be cool!

I'm trying...it just seems that I not getting the scores I think I should be getting

But even if that´s not working...well...i don´t known.I always write useful reviews(i have only one that´s useless.) and i like to visit different userpages and comment on them...I even don´t know if i´m popular or not, but,i don´t care about it.

Yeah I know I shouldn't be worrying about being a popular artist, but it is never to far from the brain...you know

Your scores are pretty good on your flashes. Maybe, post more on the BBS and get people to recognize you more. I haven't watched one of your flashes but if you make a story and don't start it off in the middle STRAIGHT into the fight scene like most artists do you'll get better results. Like i said...didn't watch any of your flashes so I don't know what you got working with you but the scores seem good.

You can post your Flashes on Youtube as well I suggest.

Lastly...if your Flash feels like it could have been an episode out of a professional cartoon or something. That's the sweet spot. If it feels absolutely no different from real television that's when you start winning front page stuff.

Thank You...your input helped me out a lot...yeah I think I just need to be more known and create a buzz about my work.

You need to have likable characters and have good flash skills and then you'll rise up in no time. In my opinion stay away from sprites.

ok thanks

make the fights more smooth and fluid i think

thanks...I'll keep that in mind

So...I guess it's my turn to comment...okay....really I really dont do anything to become an known artist....I guess it's the likable characters and the nice looking BG's...Just try to have am waaaay better looking setting come up with something new that no one never tried.
That will get the watchers interested

Thanks man...will do...

that help i out in any way?

Yeah it did

Make good flash animations.

Like Yeury!

Of course....thanks

well, i guess it's always becoming harder to produce outstanding flashes, especially sprite flashes, cause there's so many great sprite animators on NG.....
be original, create something that has never been done in a sprite movie before, i guess that's what makes a sprite movie great

I'm thinking man, and its really hard....I need some freakin ideas that's neva been done before.....

i hav ideas...
but I think i wana use em myself LOL

Hey sharing is caring & spread the wealth of info....I mean I did help you get adobe flash cs3 for free!

well to make ti here you first off need alot of allies.
second you need to relate to the people and find out what they like.
and don't ever let anyone make you feel like crap. if you think your stuff is good and other people do to than their oppinion doesn't matter.

allso don't EVER I reapeat EVER make a spam flash.

Trust me I don't make spam flashes....

What I think is, there is too much good. NEED MORE BAD!

Everybody loves good....but a little bad won't hurt anybody...will it?

NARUTO FUCKING SUCKS

Check the other movies...bub

Congrats on the top ten! It's something I've never even been close too. :) To become a known artists, just keep working and submitting, if you make great stuff you will become a great person here. :P

I'll try...

hey! i have screenshots go see!

lolz if u hav msn add me and I can try help u think of ideas n shit ya?

first of all, popularity isn't everything - do what you love and be happy with it. Secondly, you seem to just put out a lot of sprite animations that don't go far in the first place, so if you don't have as much depth and special effects as Super Mario Bros Z or the guy who did SF vs MK, you can't expect as much praise.

Sorry, but sprite animations are not what flash animating is about and they will never receive as much praise as the artists out there who are really working hard on their own animations that they built from the ground up. Using sprites from a video game just isn't as impressive. Laying down a bunch of pictures that you did not create on top of each other is not the way to gain popularity. But again, popularity isn't everything.

Yes I understand that and some people do it well. I think Alvin Earthworm's are very interesting because of the different perspectives and cool special effects he uses. His fights are very well thought out.

Yours are not bad at all, but it's very average. It was almost like just watching a Street Fighter match. If you want to do Sprites, you have to stand out like no other. It's tough to be original with something that isn't yours, so it will take even more work than an original animation.

For example when Ryu defeated Sean, Sean just bounced around for a few seconds in his stationary pose and then fell over. That looked a little silly. Things like that can be fixed. Maybe he would pant or hold his side or fall to one knee. Do some sprite editing, show some damage, some wear and tear. There's a lot to think about.
